What is a testimonial ad?

A testimonial ad uses a real customer's words, such as a review, quote or comment, as the main message. It answers a buyer's doubts with social proof rather than brand claims, and works especially well when the testimonial is specific about who the customer is and what changed for them.

Why this testimonial ad works

01
Two rewards in one quote
The customer mentions both the $128 and loving that she is recycling, combining financial and emotional benefits.
02
One word, one benefit
This is good reduces the whole ad to a single idea that can be absorbed at a glance in the feed.
03
Series built for testing
Using the same template with different words, people and quotes makes it easy to see which benefit resonates most.
04
Arrow to the kiosk
The arrow from the CTA to the kiosk cut-out shows exactly where to go, turning a review into a next step.

Full creative breakdown

Who this ad targets

This ad targets US adults with old or unused phones who are curious about selling them but need reassurance from real people first. The feel-good recycling angle speaks to younger, eco-conscious consumers who want both the money and the good feeling of recycling responsibly. As a social-proof creative, it works well in retargeting and mid-funnel campaigns for people who know the brand but have not yet visited a kiosk.

Copywriting analysis

The quote does most of the selling. It is written in a natural, slightly informal voice, which makes it feel authentic, and it includes a specific amount, $128, that anchors the value. The headline This is good is a deliberately simple sentence frame; the italic serif on good gives it emotional weight and makes it the visual punchline. The CTA line, Sell your used phone with ecoATM, uses an italic Sell to highlight the action verb and names the brand once more. Worth it ties everything back to value. Across the series, the formula is repeatable: one benefit word, one quote that proves it, one number that makes it tangible.

Visual design

The square splits into a top proof zone and a bottom message zone. The customer photo sits top right with rounded corners, overlapped by the gradient quote card on the left, creating depth and a natural reading path from quote to face. The yellow-to-mint gradient echoes the headline colour and stands out against the dark green background. Large type in the bottom half gives the benefit word enormous presence. The kiosk cut-out bottom right and the hand-drawn arrow keep the ad grounded in the physical product, while the logo bottom left closes the composition.

How to adapt this template for your brand

Pick one benefit word your customers mention most and use it in a This is ___ headline.
Choose a short real review that proves that benefit and includes a specific number.
Place the quote on a gradient card overlapping a photo of the reviewer or a similar customer.
Add a CTA line with an arrow pointing to your product or location visual.
Duplicate the template for each benefit and test the variants against each other.

Tips for recycling ads on Meta

Runs well in the Meta feed at 1:1 and can be cropped to 4:5 for extra mobile real estate. Keep the headline readable at thumbnail size and let the primary text carry the emoji benefit list. Use a Get Directions CTA with a store-traffic or reach objective targeted around kiosk locations. For Google Display or Performance Max, upload the same layout as a 1200×1200 square and pair it with a short 30-character headline that repeats the cash benefit.

About this creative

This square ad is part of ecoATM's This is series, where each creative highlights one benefit through a testimonial. The top half combines a photo of a young woman taking a car selfie with a phone decorated with stickers with a soft yellow-to-mint gradient quote card that overlaps the image. The card carries a five-star review in dark text: Super easy to use. I got $128 and I love the fact that I'm recycling The lower half switches to large type on the dark green background: This is in light green sans-serif, followed by good in a big yellow-green italic serif. Below, an italic Sell leads into the line your used phone with ecoATM, and a hand-drawn mint arrow points to a cut-out of the white and green ecoATM kiosk on the right. The ecoATM logo and Worth it tagline sit bottom left. Each version in the series changes just one word, one person and one payout.
