Who this ad targets

This ad targets senior executives, C-suite leaders, directors, partners and experienced managers aged roughly 40 to 60 who aspire to non-executive or board roles. It also suits recently retired executives and entrepreneurs who want to share their experience through board work. These professionals value prestige, governance credibility and networking, and are typically reached on LinkedIn through seniority, job title and industry targeting.

Copywriting analysis

The headline 'When a board seat opens up, are you ready?' uses a conditional clause followed by a direct question. The 'when' implies that opportunity is inevitable, flattering the reader, while 'are you ready?' introduces doubt and a need to prepare. It speaks directly to 'you', making it personal. The phrase 'board seat' is specific and immediately filters for the right audience. No benefits or features are listed, which builds curiosity. The 'Learn More' CTA fits a high-consideration purchase, though adding the programme name or a credential in primary text would strengthen trust.

Visual design

The design uses a full-bleed photo with a shallow depth of field, keeping the central chair sharp and the background chairs soft. The chairs' curves create rhythm and lead the eye toward the centre. Large, bold white headline text sits centred over the main chair, with a strong contrast against the dark grey. The thin outlined CTA is understated and premium. The absence of a logo keeps the frame clean, though it reduces brand recall.

How to adapt this template for your brand

1. Identify the role, position or achievement your audience aspires to reach.
2. Find a simple object that symbolises that opportunity, such as an empty chair, desk or stage.
3. Shoot or source a dark, moody image with one object in focus and the rest softly blurred.
4. Write a 'When X happens, are you ready?' question headline that speaks directly to the reader.
5. Add a subtle outlined CTA and consider a small logo for brand recall.

Tips for professional certifications ads on LinkedIn

On LinkedIn, this ad is ideal for Sponsored Content targeting by seniority such as Director, VP and CXO, plus years of experience and board member skills. Add primary text with programme duration, credentials and alumni outcomes. On Meta, target lookalike audiences of past programme participants. Add a small logo to improve brand recall, and test this metaphor image against a real boardroom scene with people to compare engagement.
